Maths Week/Wiki Pāngarau 2025

Monday 11 August – Friday 15 August

Maths Week Sets and Resources

In previous years, Maths Week resources have been classified by levels. As from this year, they will be classified by Sets as follows.

  • Set A – primarily for Years 1 and 2.
  • Set B – primarily for Years 3 and 4.
  • Set C – primarily for Years 5 and 6.
  • Set D – primarily for Years 7 and 8.
  • Set E – primarily for Years 9, 10 and 11.

This will mean that teachers can use different resources in the same class without any reference to different levels. Not all sections have material for all sets (see details below).

Maths Week resources are either quizzes or worksheets.

  • Quizzes have short answer questions or multiple choice questions.
  • Worksheets provide mathematical activities and questions. They can be downloaded and printed by teachers

The Maths Week resources this year are as follows.

  • The Maths Chaser/Whai Pāngarau. Five Quizzes for Sets B – E. An in-class activity. The quizzes can be downloaded and printed by teachers. PowerPoint versions of these quizzes and a link to Google slides are also available.
  • Power of 2/Mana o 2 (previously called Maths Millionaire/Kaipāngarau Whai Rawa). Five Quizzes with Years 3 – 5, Years 6 – 8, Years 9 – 11 and Family divisions. The questions for each day are based on a theme. Each quiz is completed on-line. Those who answer all questions correctly can print a certificate. There are te reo Māori versions of these quizzes.
  • Money Sense/Tikanga moni. Quizzes to support financial capability, with one quiz for Set D and five quizzes for Set E (each on a particular theme). Each quiz is completed on-line.
  • Daily Dollar/Ko te Tāra o te Rā. Worksheets for Sets A – E. A record sheet (a Word version and a spreadsheet version) for teachers to keep a cumulative class record for this series is available with the other Daily Dollar teacher resources.
  • Survivor Series/Kia Mōrehurehu. Worksheets for in-class tasks for Sets A – E for each day during Maths Week. Each day’s tasks have a theme (the same theme for all levels).
  • Maths Extra!/Pāngarau taapiri! (previously named The Basket of Maths/Te Kete o Pāngarau). One worksheet on a mathematical topic. Primarily written for Years 9 – 11 but could be suitable for some in Years 7 and 8.
  • Super Challenge/Kua takoto te Manuka. One mathematical challenge question each day for Monday - Thursday during Maths Week. Answers are submitted on-line on the last day of Maths Week. Those who submit correct answers for the questions and the total can print a certificate. Answers and any other notes are available for teachers on the Tuesday in the week following Maths Week.
  • Games. Interactive games that students can access on their electronic devices.

The Daily Dollar and Survivor Series worksheets, and the Maths Chaser and Power of 2 quizzes, are longer using day names – they are now being referred to as Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4 and Day 5. This means that teachers can use any of this material without reference to a specific day.
